High School

Carl G. Jung states that “Life really does begin at forty. Up until then, you are just doing research.”

At Pinnacle College Rynfield, we say that life…or the most important years of research…begin at Grade 8. And whether you are joining us from our own Primary School or migrating from one of our surrounding Primary Schools, your High School experience will be one of self-discovery and research that will culminate in a celebration of the best YOU, in your Matric year.

You might decide to join the High School at a later point on your research journey…Grade 9 or 10…but whenever you do, you will instantly comprehend and appreciate that you are in a safe, inspiring and happy space.

The personal development of every student is important as we nurture their emotional intelligence in a safe environment. Our dedicated teachers are committed to educational excellence and attend regular in-service training.
We foster a drive for academic excellence in our Students while promoting independent thinking and problem-solving strategies as we prepare our students for the IEB National Senior Certificate Examination. Having the key to the door though, means little if you are not confident enough to step beyond it. When you leave Pinnacle College Rynfield we confidently send our Matric Students off possessing confidence in themselves and equipped with skills to ensure they not only cope with their Tertiary Studies, but thrive in this next exciting phase of life as global citizens.

We follow the CAPS Curriculum (Curriculum and Assessment Policy) of the National Department of Education which will culminate in an IEB written exam for matric.

The IEB offers a wide variety of subjects and allows flexibility within the syllabus, making sure that examinations are in line with international requirements. The IEB is recognised at all tertiary institutions in South Africa - and good quality results will provide access to universities overseas.

Assessments and Reports

We are a four-term school, but run our Academic Programme on three Academic Cycles.

At Pinnacle College Rynfield we assess the Students on a continuous basis so as to be able to remedy any areas of concern as soon as possible during each Academic Cycle.

High School Grades 8 – 12

  • A progress report is issued at the end of each of the Academic Cycles.
  • Cycle 1 is based on continuous classwork assessments from Term 1 & Term 2
  • Cycle 2 is based on continuous classwork assessments from Term 2 & Term 3 and the Mid-Year Examinations.
  • Cycle 3 is based on continuous classwork assessments from Term 3 & Term 4 and the Final Examinations at the end of the year.
  • Matric Students write an additional set of Preliminary Exams in September.
  • Parents Evenings are held in Term 1 and Term 2, while Student Lead Conferences are held in the 3rd Term.

Out of the Box

At Pinnacle College Rynfield, there is an emphasis on giving our Students additional experiences that you would not normally expect in a traditional schooling environment. For the first hour of every Day 4 on the timetable, we literally get the students “OUT OF THE BOX” and allow them to choose from a host of activities that they would not normally experience.

They choose a specific activity for a Term and then choose a new activity for the next Term. These activities are not Grade specific and as such, the Students are given the opportunity to engage with other Students in higher and/or lower Grades. This offers and whole new level of social interaction and camaraderie in the High School.

The types of activities on offer include:

Touch Rugby; Mosaics; Cross-Fit; Song Group; Swimming; Mountain Biking; Theatre Make-up; Paper Craft; Volleyball; Yoga; Mural Painting; Hockey; Golf; Basketball; Tennis; Trail Running; E-Sports; Laser-Run (Biathlon) and many more.
